But the main focus is on individuals rather than technology, and it deals with love and loneliness, authenticity and illusion, and what it really means to be human.
The title of the book is taken from the phrase 'The Turing Test' which refers to a proposal made by Alan Turing in 1950 as a way of dealing with the question of whether machines can think. The book is a rich work of fiction and can be re-read many times.
